About Mariam,
Psychotherapist in Toronto
My practice is rooted in warmth, curiosity, and deep care, blending evidence-based approaches with lived experience to support healing and self-discovery.
My Approach to therapy
I’m Mariam — a therapist passionate about creating a space where every part of you is welcome.
In therapy, I aim to be warm, attuned, and deeply curious, offering a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your inner world with compassion and, at times, humour. I work with teens and young adults helping them navigate challenges like anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem, bullying, or trauma.
As a second-generation Canadian and woman of colour, my lived experience shapes how I hold space for Toronto’s diverse communities. I draw on both research-backed practices and cultural sensitivity to ensure therapy feels affirming, inclusive, and grounded in connection.

My Story
Watching friends and loved ones navigate mental health challenges was often heartbreaking and difficult to make sense of. Growing up in BIPOC communities, many of us encountered additional barriers: support for mental health often felt out of reach, and the resources that were available rarely reflected our experiences or identities, which only deepened the sense of isolation.
The experiences of those around me, along with my own challenges with mental health, prompted a period of deep self-reflection. Through late nights spent journaling and meaningful conversations with other women of colour who had faced similar struggles, I found clarity and direction. That journey ultimately inspired me to pursue both my bachelor's and master's degrees in Psychology.
Over time, I began to see how much of our healing is tied to understanding, empathy, connection and community. I’m still learning, still growing. But now, I feel called to share the resources, reflections, and lessons I’ve found along the way in the hope that they might help someone else feel a little less alone.
That path brought me here as a therapist, but also as a witness, a fellow traveler, and a believer in the power of collective healing. I hold space especially for women of colour who have carried both strength and sorrow. Who were pushed into being “strong women” because often there was no other choice. This space is for those who are ready to create the space to come home to themselves.
This space is my way of turning pain into purpose.
If you’re here, I’m so glad you are.
