Individual Therapy for Second Generation Canadians & BIPOC Communities in Toronto

Hi there, I’m so happy to have you here! I’m Mariam.

My practice is anchored in managing the root cause of our challenges rather than just the symptoms through research-backed practices. My approach centres on nervous system healing, integrating both mind and body, and drawing on therapies like CBT, EFT, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems. I specialize in working with diaspora populations as well as young adults navigating the messy middle stages of life.

I offer individual psychotherapy sessions designed around your unique story. Sessions are available in person in Toronto (Christie Pits, Little Italy & The Annex) or online across Canada, making therapy accessible and flexible.

If you’d like to begin, I invite you to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation call to see if we’re the right fit.

Areas of Focus

  • Evidence Based

Through the use of nervous system based therapy our aim here is to address the root cause of our issues rather than just coping with the symptoms. Rooted in the idea that the pleasant parts of us and the messy parts are all welcome here and they are all a part of our healing. Book a call.

  • Trauma-Informed & Somatic Therapy

Trauma lives in the body as much as in the mind. Our trauma-informed, somatic approach integrates neuroscience, mindfulness, and body awareness to support nervous system regulation and emotional healing. We work gently and collaboratively to restore a sense of safety, embodiment, and wholeness.

  • Relational & Attachment-Focused Work

Relationships shape our sense of self. Through a relational and somatic lens, we explore how early attachment patterns show up in present-day interactions. Therapy offers a space to deepen emotional attunement, develop healthier boundaries, and cultivate more secure and meaningful connections.

  • Anxiety & Depression: A Mind-Body Approach

Anxiety and depression often signal a deeper disconnection—from self, body, or emotion. Using a holistic, body-centered approach, we help you recognize internal cues, release tension, and restore emotional vitality. Evidence-based practices such as mindfulness, somatic tracking, and parts work support lasting change.

  • Self-Esteem & Embodied Identity

True self-worth is felt, not just understood. We help you reconnect with your body’s wisdom to uncover limiting beliefs, release internalized shame, and nurture a more integrated and empowered sense of identity. This work invites clarity, confidence, and authentic self-expression.

  • Supporting Diaspora Communities with Cultural & Somatic Sensitivity

Living between cultures can bring both richness and complexity. We provide culturally aware, body-informed therapy that honours your lived experience. Whether you’re navigating generational trauma, identity shifts, or a longing for belonging, therapy offers a grounded space for integration and resilience.

  • Healing Family Dynamics

Family conflict often stems from unmet needs, generational patterns, and unspoken emotions held in both the body and the nervous system. Through a holistic, somatic approach, we create a safe space for each family member to feel seen and heard. Using evidence-based tools and mindful communication practices, we support families in developing emotional regulation, repairing ruptures, and fostering deeper connection and understanding.

The process

Nervous System Based Therapy

Addressing Root Causes for
Lasting Change

My approach is rooted in the belief that both the pleasant and messy parts of you are welcome here. By focusing on nervous system-based therapy, which aims to address the root causes of your challenges rather than merely coping with symptoms through research-backed practices.

By giving attention and compassion to the parts of you that need it most, we empower you to release their hold and navigate life's challenges with greater ease and groundedness while unlearning the behaviours, thoughts and schemas that hold us back from reaching our highest capacities.

A Guide to Starting Therapy

Therapy isn’t always fun or easy
It’s like working out you may not always want to go but you know you’ll feel better afterwards. It’s about learning to tolerate the discomfort for long term gains..

01

Therapy can be a corrective experience

If we’re hurt in relationship with others the healing must also happen through relationship it cannot happen in isolation. The therapeutic relationship offers a space to be seen and heard in an emotionally safe environment.

02

Journaling before or after a session is helpful!

It may be helpful to write down what you’d like to discuss in session or your reflections about what was covered in a session. Even thoughts you’d like to remember for next time or things you forgot can help ease your mind and create space to reflect.

03

Develop before and after session rituals

This can include going for a short walk or journaling after a session to help you process it. Or putting your phone on silent and taking a few deep breaths before a session. It’s often helpful to not schedule anything important for right after a session to give yourself some time to wind down. Even 15 minutes can make a difference!
